Privacy Policy
Effective 27 October 2026 · Terms of Service
This policy explains what Teho collects, why, who sees it, and how you stay in control. We have written it to be read, not skimmed past. The summary below is a quick overview, and the full policy is what applies.
We do not sell personal data or use usage analytics for targeted advertising.
Direct world connections can reveal IP addresses to approved players. A relay is an alternative route.
Ask for a copy, a correction or deletion at legal@sgm.sh, and we reply within a month.
1.Who we are
Teho Client (“Teho”) is made by SGM Studios LTD, a company registered in England and Wales (company number 16946095, VAT number GB512829886). Our registered office is Unit A, 82 James Carter Road, Mildenhall, Bury St. Edmunds, England, IP28 7DE.
We are registered with the UK Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) under registration number ZC281351.
We are the controller of the personal data described in this policy. This means we decide how and why it is used, and we are responsible for it under the UK General Data Protection Regulation (“UK GDPR”), the Data Protection Act 2018 and the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations (“PECR”). If you are in the European Economic Area, we also apply the EU GDPR.
This policy covers the Teho launcher, Teho Client you play Minecraft with, tehoclient.com, the Teho Store (store.tehoclient.com), teho.pics, our hosting and server features, the Teho help centre and our official community spaces (together, the “Services”). Independent game-server operators are responsible for their own use of player data, even when they use Teho features or infrastructure. Their policies apply to that processing, as do the policies of independent mods and websites you use.
For anything about privacy, email legal@sgm.sh. For general help, email support@tehoclient.com.
2.What we collect and why
We collect what we need to run the feature you are using, plus optional usage data that you choose whether to share. For each feature, the table shows what we collect, why, and the lawful basis we rely on. “Contract” means we need the data to provide something you asked for. “Legitimate interests” means we have a genuine reason that we have weighed against your rights. “Consent” means we only do it if you said yes, and you can change your mind at any time.
| Feature | What we collect | Why | Lawful basis |
|---|---|---|---|
| Signing in | Your Minecraft UUID, username, public skin and cape, and authentication tokens used to verify your account and keep you signed in. Microsoft handles your password; we never receive it. These sign-in flows do not request your Microsoft email address. | To verify your Minecraft account, create your Teho account and keep you signed in. | Contract |
| Your Teho account | Account tier and roles, cosmetics you own and have equipped, module profiles you save to the cloud, and launcher and client settings you sync. | To give you your cosmetics and settings on any PC. | Contract |
| Friends and presence | Your friends, friend requests and blocked players. Also whether you are online, which Minecraft version you are playing, and the public server or world you are in (shown only to the people your settings allow). | To run friends, invites and “join” features. | Contract |
| Chat | Messages, sender identifiers, timestamps, conversation names and membership. In end-to-end encrypted chats, we cannot read message contents, but we still hold the account and conversation information needed to deliver them. We do not accept reports about encrypted message contents. | To deliver messages, including to friends who were offline, and to investigate reports about standard chats. | Contract; legitimate interests (keeping players safe) |
| Voice calls | Call participants, start time, mute and speaking status, and audio routed through voice servers we operate using our hosting providers. Calls in encrypted conversations also use end-to-end encryption. We do not record calls. | To connect calls without a direct connection between participants. | Contract |
| Playing together | Connection details, Minecraft version and join requests. A direct connection can reveal your IP address to the approved player you connect with; relayed connections use our infrastructure. Public world names you create can be discovered by others. | To let players host and join worlds. | Contract |
| World backups | The world archives you upload, their names, sizes and dates. | To store and restore your backups. | Contract |
| teho.pics | Screenshots you choose to upload, your UUID and username, title, visibility, upload date and basic image details. An unlisted image can be seen by anyone with its link. | To host, manage and share your screenshots. | Contract |
| Purchases | Your Minecraft UUID and username, products and plans, prices, currency, order and payment references and status. For Teho+, this includes trial eligibility, trial and subscription dates, renewals and cancellations. Stripe handles payment, billing, contact and tax information. Authorised staff can access relevant payment information to manage orders and refunds. We do not collect your full card number. | To provide purchases and Teho+ benefits, manage trials and billing, send service notices, handle refunds and keep required tax records. | Contract; legal obligation |
| Bug and crash reports | The report you write, your Minecraft username and UUID, your Teho and Minecraft versions and system details. A copy of your log is attached only if you approve it for that report. | To investigate and fix the problem, and to reply to you. | Contract (bug reports you send); consent (automatic crash reports, see section 3) |
| Integrity and fair play | The result of checks run on your computer by the Teho Integrity Service, which is described below this table. | To stop tampered or fake Teho builds, protect official features and detect abuse. | Legitimate interests |
| Moderation | Reports made by or about you, the messages or content that were reported, and any action we take, such as warnings or bans. | To enforce our Terms and keep the community safe. | Legitimate interests |
| Security | IP addresses, request times, basic device information and temporary anti-abuse records. | To keep the Services running and to prevent abuse, fraud and attacks. | Legitimate interests |
| Support | Your messages to us, your email address or Discord username, and anything you choose to attach. | To answer you. | Legitimate interests; contract |
| Beta and early access | Your Minecraft username, email address, optional Discord username and your application answers. | To run the application process and invite you. | Legitimate interests |
| Usage analytics | Described in full in section 3. | To understand how Teho is used and make it better. | Consent |
| Website analytics | Pages visited, referrer, approximate location and device type, collected with Google Analytics cookies. | To understand how people find and use tehoclient.com. | Consent |
| Device handoff | Device details and temporary session data, including game state, shared between devices signed into your Minecraft account. | To continue playing on another device. | Contract |
| Server features | Server-owner accounts, listings, reward records and account/client verification information. With your permission, a connected server can also receive requested client information, mod lists or a game screenshot. | To provide server features. Independent server operators are responsible for the data they receive. | Contract; consent for optional client-data sharing |
The Teho Integrity Service. On Windows, Teho installs a background service that verifies installation files and runtime software components, including overlays. These checks run locally to help detect tampering and protect online features. They do not search your documents or scan the list of other running programs.
Detailed check results are returned locally. Failed checks can prevent Teho from starting or pause protected features. The service has its own entry in Windows Settings -> Installed apps and can be removed separately; uninstalling Teho also attempts to remove it.
We do not ask for, and you should not send us, special category data (for example health, religion or sexual orientation) or other sensitive information. Please do not share it in chat either.
3.Usage analytics and crash reports
When you first open the launcher, we ask whether you want to share usage data. It is off unless you turn it on. You can change your answer in Settings -> Privacy -> Share usage data. Restart any running game for the change to apply there. A request already being sent may finish. Declining does not affect any feature you can use.
When it is on, the launcher and client send:
- Activity: when the launcher opens, when a game starts and how long it runs, and whether updates install successfully.
- Your setup: your Teho, Minecraft, mod loader and Java versions, operating system and version, language, game memory, CPU core count and graphics card details, used to produce statistics about supported systems.
- Performance: frame rates and loading times, used for performance statistics.
- Features: which modules, HUD elements and launcher screens you use, and which onboarding steps you finish. We record names and counts only, never what you type.
- Servers: the addresses of servers you join, used for server statistics. We filter out IP addresses and recognised local-only names before storing those statistics.
- Country: worked out from your IP address when the data arrives. The IP address itself is not stored.
- Crash reports: error details, technical diagnostics and software versions. We filter common personal details, such as usernames in file paths, email addresses and IP addresses, but automatic filtering may not remove every personal detail.
Usage data is associated with your Minecraft account so we can count active and returning players. We keep daily statistics rather than a history of each player’s actions. Account identifiers and diagnostic reports can still be personal data; they are subject to the retention limits in section 10.
We do not intentionally collect chat, voice, screenshots, world contents or keystrokes as usage analytics. Our network providers receive the connection information needed to deliver requests. We do not use usage analytics for advertising or sell it.
4.What we do not do
- We do not sell your personal data, and we do not share it with data brokers.
- We do not use your data for targeted or personalised advertising.
- We do not record voice calls.
- We do not use the Integrity Service to search your documents or scan the list of other running programs. Its checks are described in section 2.
- We restrict direct world connection details to approved mutual friends. A direct connection can reveal your IP address to the other player; using a relay is a different connection route (see section 2).
- We do not ask for your Microsoft password, and we never see it.
6.Advertising
Teho does not show advertising from ad networks right now. If we introduce it, we will update this policy before it starts and obtain any required consent. Teho+ members will not see network adverts.
We may show our own promotions, or sponsored servers in the server browser. These are the same for everyone and are not based on information about you. We count how often each promotion is shown in total, never per player.
8.International transfers
Some of our providers process data outside the UK and the EEA. Where required, transfers must be covered by an applicable adequacy decision or approved safeguards. These can include the UK International Data Transfer Agreement or UK Addendum for UK transfers, EU Standard Contractual Clauses for EEA transfers, or an applicable Data Privacy Framework certification. The mechanism depends on the provider, the recipient and the transfer; a provider’s location alone is not a safeguard. Contact legal@sgm.sh for information about the safeguards applying to your data and how to obtain a copy.
9.How long we keep data
| Data | How long |
|---|---|
| Account, cosmetics, settings, friends | While your account is active. Deleted within 30 days of a deletion request. |
| Chat messages | The most recent 500 messages in each conversation. Older messages are deleted automatically. |
| Presence, join requests, invites, relay tickets | Minutes. They are held in memory and expire automatically. |
| World backups and teho.pics screenshots | Until deleted, including through an applicable account-deletion request. Publicly delivered copies may remain temporarily in caches or with recipients. |
| Usage analytics and crash reports | Identifiable daily analytics and crash details: up to 45 days. |
| Bug reports and support tickets | Up to 2 years after the issue is closed. |
| Purchase and tax records | 6 years from the end of the financial year, as UK tax law requires. |
| Moderation records | While a sanction is active, plus up to 2 years so repeat abuse can be recognised. |
| Beta applications | Until the programme ends, or 12 months, whichever is sooner. |
| Security logs | Up to 30 days. |
| Server-owner records | For as long as needed to provide the server feature; moderation and purchase records follow the limits above. |
If the law requires us to keep something, such as tax records or information needed for a legal claim, we keep only what is needed and tell you when we respond to your request. Chat history is limited by number of messages, not by age, so messages in a quiet conversation stay until newer messages replace them or the chat is deleted. Deleted data may stay in our backups for a short time before those backups are replaced, and we can’t remove copies other people have already received.
10.Security
Teho’s public web and API connections use encrypted transport. We cryptographically sign entitlements and support end-to-end encrypted chat; ordinary chat and call metadata are not end-to-end encrypted. Voice servers and world relays can avoid a direct connection between players, while direct world connections can reveal addresses as described above. No system is perfectly secure. We must notify the ICO of a personal-data breach without undue delay and, where feasible, within 72 hours of becoming aware of it unless it is unlikely to risk people’s rights and freedoms. Where a breach is likely to result in a high risk, we must also inform affected people without undue delay, subject to the legal exceptions.
11.Children
You must be at least 13 to use Teho. We do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone younger. If you think a child under 13 has an account, email legal@sgm.sh and we will delete it.
We expect teenagers to use Teho. Optional usage analytics is off by default, and direct world connection details are restricted by mutual-friend permissions. Under-18s need a parent or guardian’s permission to buy anything. Where local law requires parental authorisation for an optional consent-based feature, that authorisation is also needed; the minimum age for a child’s own consent varies by country.
12.Your rights
Under UK data protection law you have the right to:
- access the personal data we hold about you and get a copy;
- correct data that is wrong;
- delete your data and account;
- restrict or object to how we use it, including anything based on legitimate interests;
- take your data with you in a portable format;
- withdraw consent at any time, for example by turning off usage data or rejecting cookies. This does not affect anything done before you withdrew it.
To use any of these rights, email legal@sgm.sh from any address and tell us your Minecraft username. We may ask you to sign in to Teho to prove the account is yours. We will reply within one month. This can be extended by two more months for complex requests, and we will tell you if so. It is free unless a request is clearly unfounded or excessive.
These rights have legal conditions and exceptions, and the rights available to you can also depend on where you live. Contact legal@sgm.sh to ask about a local privacy right or to authorise someone to act for you. We do not make solely automated decisions producing legal or similarly significant effects as part of usage analytics; technical integrity checks can restrict protected features, and you can contact support to request a review.
To make a privacy complaint, email legal@sgm.sh or write to our registered office. We will acknowledge it within 30 days, investigate without undue delay, keep you informed and tell you the outcome. You can also complain to the UK Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113. If you live in the EEA, you can complain to your local data protection authority. You do not need our permission to contact a regulator.
13.Servers and services we don’t run
When you join a Minecraft server, use a third-party mod or follow a link, the operator of that server, mod or site receives information directly from you. This includes your username, UUID and IP address, and what you say in its chat. We do not control this, and their own policies apply. Teho is not affiliated with Mojang AB or Microsoft.
14.Changes to this policy
We will update this policy when the way we handle data changes. The effective date at the top always shows the current version. If a change is significant, we will tell you in the launcher or by email before it takes effect. If a change needs your consent, for example a new kind of optional data, we will ask again rather than assume.
